Arleta Chamber of Commerce & Residents Association Collection, 1963-2000.

The Arleta Chamber of Commerce (ACC) was established in February 1975 after the Arleta Property Owners Council petitioned to break free from the City of Pacoima and establish Arleta as its own community. Since its inception, the organization's focus is to "promote business within [Arleta's] boundaries and to further the best community interest of the Arleta area." In June, 1976, the California Legislature granted Arleta its independence. In 1981 the Arleta Chamber of Commerce and the Arleta Residents Association merged into one organization. The Arleta Chamber of Commerce and Residents Association is still in existence, continuing its goal to promote business growth and encourage citizen participation in the community. Materials in the collection include meeting minutes and agendas, correspondence, newspaper clippings, community notices, memoranda, financial records, fliers, bylaws, resolutions and photographs. The collection also contains the records of the two organizations before they merged in 1981. Of particular interest are materials relating to the proposed (failed) construction of an electrical distribution station in Branford Park by the DWP, and the ZIP Code Reinstatement project.
